WHY DO WE CELEBRATE EASTER?

It’s finally here… The LONG weekend we’ve ALL been waiting for!!!!! Niseme ama nisiseme? Sherehe pap!!!

Anyway…. What is Easter and why do we really celebrate it?

So for several people around the globe, Easter is a family celebration with Easter egg hunts, chocolate easter bunnies and colourful eggs. However, most people often forget that for Christians, Easter is the oldest and one of the most cherished celebrations in the church year.

Christians actually celebrate the victory of life over death with the resurrection of Jesus and hence the central event of their religion.

All over the world, Easter is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon. This occurs after the spring equinox on 21st March every year. Therefore, it can fall on any Sunday between 22nd March and 25th April. This year, Easter is being observed on Sunday, 17th April.

How is Easter celebrated around the world? Christians hold special church services while others light candles, play music, and flowers. Though the celebrations may differ across different religions, the spirit of thanksgiving and family activities remains the same.

What do Kenyans do though? An opportunity for h-enjoyment!!!! Quite deserving to be honest. We have worked VERY hard! (wink, wink)
